Ecological Glossary
Understanding the terms of ecological rating is essential for taking action. Here are the key definitions used in our reports and on our rating platform.
LCA (Life Cycle Assessment)
Methodology for assessing the environmental impacts of a product, service or process over its entire life cycle (from raw material extraction to end-of-life).
GHG Protocol (Greenhouse Gas Protocol)
The most widely used international standard for accounting and managing greenhouse gas emissions. It defines Scopes 1, 2 and 3.
Greenwashing
A marketing practice that uses misleading ecological arguments to improve the image of a company or product, while the actual environmental impact is poor.
Net Zero
The goal of balancing human-caused greenhouse gas emissions with their removal from the atmosphere. At Ecorating, we prioritise actual reduction over offsetting.
Scope 3
Indirect emissions of a company that are not related to purchased energy, but occur in its value chain (suppliers, transport, use of sold products).
